I know a lot of people are using things like the Easy Star, it is simple and a pusher so you have a good FOV.
would the xl glider work for a tail mounted or fuselage mounted cam

The Radian would work well, I think, especailly with the folding prop, it would allow for a clear view when soaring.
and how long would the range be with the attitude fpv pack and dxe transmitter

The range of the transmitter unfortunately is not stated as they are tended to be used in line of sight, as for the FPV setup depending on the enviorment it could be a 1/4 mile easily.
